HISTORY
Since 2001, some members of the African Kids Foundation (AKF) board have been involved with spiritual, educational and childcare organisations and activities in several African countries—Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda and Egypt. It was a natural development to get organised in ways that helping orphaned and vulnerable children in Africa in better ways.

The President of AKF, Dr. Rob Crickett, was attracted to the Watoto model of childcare and first directed AKF’s efforts to a small group in Busega to the west of Kampala, Uganda who expressed an interest in adopting some of Watoto’s features in their operation. Considerable financial, educational and spiritual support was provided for two years to get the group where they wanted to go.

Dr. Rob was preaching and ministering in Egypt, Kenya, Rwanda and other parts of Kampala when he directed AKF’s efforts toward a second project in Uganda. They were a registered non-government organisation providing spiritual, educational and childcare support for 50 children in two locations, some of whom have been orphaned or made vulnerable by AIDS, war, alcohol or neglect. AKF's Mission Team Leader, Lesley Van Zyl, another Australian, was on the ground in Uganda making the transition for six months. Again, AKF provided considerable financial, material, educational and spiritual support for two years to get the group where they wanted to go. Eventually they moved from the rented walled house in Entebbe and relocated in a rural setting of their own design.

In 2011, akf partnered with igf.
It was the desire to minister to former child soldiers in the war-torn north of Uganda that drew Dr. Rob to stay with Irene Gleeson and her organisation, the Irene Gleeson Foundation, then known as Childcare Kitgum Servants. This remarkable woman was then caring for more than ten thousand children, located in several settings centred around her five schools. IGF provided free schooling, clothing, food, medicine and even a hospice for AIDS patients to die in a loving and safe environment that Irene tagged the Heaven Express. Irene’s achievements in this desolate and war-ravaged part of Africa have drawn support from diverse sources worldwide and in 2010 she was honoured as an Officer of the Order of Australia.

Dr. Rob directed AKF’s resources to helping a specific target group among this mass of Irene’s red-shirted kids. They are the homeless orphans living on her Kitgum campus right where the caravan was parked under the mango tree when she first arrived in 1991. Join us in supporting one of Africa’s most courageous living missionaries, and help us fight AIDS, poverty and parentless hopelessness. By partnering with IGF AKF is doing this. http://www.cks.org.au/http://www.cks.org.au/shapeimage_5_link_0shapeimage_5_link_1
